Doddsy Honoured At Aust Bodyboarding Awards

The president of Forster Tuncurry Bodyboard Association (FTBA) Aaron Dodds was recognised at Riptide Magazine's 2014 Bodyboarder of the Year Awards in Sydney recently. Dodds was honoured for his dedication to the Australian bodyboarding community particularly for his work with FTBA with a community award. "I was really unaware. I wasn’t expecting it at all," Dodds said. "I was a little bit lost for words to be honest. I was shocked." The award symbolises Aaron's passion for grassroots bodyboarding and the workshops he has organised through the club for local kids such as the successful Boogie Youth Development Clinics which aims to inspire youth up and down the coast of NSW to lead a healthy lifestyle. FTBA 2014 Presentation

FTBA has had an amazing year, 8 Competitive club rounds, held 5 coaching clinic/safari's, hosted The Jeff Wilcox Memorial for the 2nd year running, held 3 club Public Relations Campaigns/Fundraising and introduced 2 new events to our community called "Boogie Youth - Development Clinic" and "Interclub Challenge". The club has grown to just over 150 registered members with 50-80 consistently at monthly club comps. We celebrated our 2014 campaign in style at the Sporties Tuncurry on the 30th November. Final placings were blind due to a few rescheduled and cancelled events through the year. The committee were on a tight timeline to get the ball rolling, thus pushing 2014 AGM till Sunday 18th January 2015. Rider Profile – Liam Brady

Date Posted 25th June, 2013 Category Rider Recognition | Comments Off on Rider Profile – Liam Brady

Name: Liam Brady Age: 18 years Favourite Rider: Thom Rob, he's got a killer style and knows how to stick a move and give it some flare at the same time. What is the best part of being part of the club and it's monthly comps? Im with FTBA. Best part of being in a club is definitely being able to compete with mates without taking it too serious and just the social aspect of meeting up with everyone once a month. Comps have definitely helped my surfing. Two years ago I would have never thought me doing a flip or an ars in a heat was possible but now I'm doing them multiple times a day. Fave Move: Favourite move would probably be a flip, I suppose but I'm stoked whenever I bust any air. When I first started out I used to always try gay little flips and never started to stick them till 2011. Does/has the Club and BBNSW helped you? The enthusiasm from some of the older members convinced me to try state this year, wasn't overly happy with how i went but i was content making it to Nationals but then again I didn't take it too seriously just trying to gain some more experience. What does the future hold for you? I've tried to travel as much as I can in terms of wave variety. The best I've had is probably surfing a pretty unknown reef with Jesse Galloway and Jack Mac and a few more older guys a couple times a while back. The wave was sick but again the social aspect and the trip there and back was a sick experience too. Last question, why is it so important to be involved in grass roots bodyboard clubs? The only advice I really have is just practice to any younger fellas. Grass roots is definitely the first step if you want to step up in the ranks, having local comps with your friends just makes it so much easier to deal with any new things you...

Rider Profile – Scotty Fantini

Date Posted 25th June, 2013 Category Rider Recognition | Comments Off on Rider Profile – Scotty Fantini

Name: Scotty Fantini Age: 17 years Favourite Rider: My favourite rider has to be Ryan Hardy but from my local area Reido Smith really stands out. How loing have you been involved? I surf for FTBA Forster Tuncurry Bodyboard Association. I have been surfing seriously for 2 or 3 years and with FTBA when it restarted this year. What is the best part of being part of the club and it's monthly comps? Best part of comps would have to be hanging with the boys on a Sunday at the beach, lettin tha good times roll. Fave Move: Favourite move would have to be the flip Does/has the Club and BBNSW helped you? FTBA has helped me improve my riding heaps, the push from all the older dudes keeps me keen and helps me excel in bigger waves, plus it's given me a big boost in confidence which has helped my riding. I haven't been that involved with BBNSW but I would like to. What does the future hold for you? Next year I plan on furthering my surfing career - I'm planning on moving to the South Coast for maybe work but mainly to surf and get better, score some sick waves and have fun with mates for a year and also compete in state and other comps. What can Bodyboarding NSW do to help this? I think if BBNSW was more involved with riders by helping them get to comps and maybe providing help with those struggling, there's probably alot of sweet riders out there who just cant get to state comps and other comps because of cost. Last question, why is it so important to be involved in grass roots bodyboard clubs? I believe its so important to be involved in grass roots bodyboarding for that push you get to go bigger waves hit bigger sections and just improve your riding, I think it's important to realise that it's not all about winning but getting better and that's what grass roots BB clubs have showed...

Have you attended a Regional, State or National Titles or Pro Events? Regionals in Forster, State round 2 in Cronulla and Port Mac Pro I placed 6th. What does the future hold for you and DK?
