2015 Round 4 Presented By Forster Surf & Sport and The Bellevue Hotel

Round 4 of Forster Tuncurry Bodyboarding Association took place on the 31st of August after our winter break. The call was made early to hold it at Bull's Paddock. The forecast swell did not look to have arrived when the crew first set up but by the second heat there were some solid 4ft sets pushing through the line-up. This certainly had the grommets on their toes in their earlier heats. Groms Division Groms hit the water first with Flynn Dunn taking out the first heat of the day with excellent wave selection, scoring him two clean barrels on nice set waves. Jeremy Coombes snuck through into second position with a nice flip on the last wave of the heat. Recent Nationals finalist Jack Rogers hit the early lead in his heat with a very tidy 6 point barrel. Josh Aurisch was hot on his heels though, slamming down his rolls and rev spins and flawless barrel rides. Masters Division Masters saw Sam Elbourne come out of retirement to take on Simon Patterson and Ben "Fury" Fletcher. Simon kept busy clocking up many heavy closeouts, while Elbourne and Fury were more selective and it paid off. To finish of the heat all 3 got an all-time party wave. The swell started to swing further south, the tide dropping and banks did not favour us, now providing most waves with straight up heavy closeouts. Juniors Division Junior Men's was very tight. The 5 man, 30min final was dominated from the start with Jumaane Fredricks getting two perfect deep set wave pits scoring high 7's. Doddsy challenged the boys to try bust out a roll, flip or inny instead of wasting waves on closeouts. The heavy lips causing a problem and folding most the boys in half. Jeremy Coombes and Brody Hill were the only ones to come close to Jumaane, finding some good sections to roll out or end carve to rev bowls. Dropknee Finals Dropknee Final was very tough. The straight bank now being a pest, making it very difficult for the boys to get up in time before the bottom turn. Josh Smith''s only wave in final scoring the biggest Wipeout of the Day with a perfect 10 point chair ride. Josh Aurisch scraped through a few bottom turns and closeouts. Donz was all style coming in hot for each closeout trying to bust floats and dragon snaps. But it all came down to Kallan Bragg finding smaller waves with better shape where he could get 3 well ridden waves. Dragon tail snap, rev hacks and barrels. Open Men's Open Men's, Brody Hill first found the chicken dinner scoring a magic pit and rev bowl scoring high 6. The heat was on, Jumaane, Jacob Dunn and Kallan Bragg going wave for wave. Closeout vs barrel vs heavy roll. Kallan coming up trumps dominating the heavy sections and coming out in front of the shock waves with some massive rolls. Congratulations to last year's "Club Member of the year" whom bagged the Daily Double win in Open Men and Drop Knee of Rnd 4 FTBA's 2015 Campaign. Massive thanks to the mums and dads that helped throughout the day. The flawless help and management of set up, bbq and judging booth by Daniel and Craig Smith. Thank you to...

2015 Round 3 Presented By Forster Surf & Sport and The Bellevue Hotel

Lest We Forget. Forster Tuncurry Bodyboarders held their third round of the year on the 26th of April, making the most of some very nice waves and offshore winds all day. 50+ riders turned up at the comp venue to find some long 4ft lefts peeling down the beach. The Groms were first in the water, followed by the Juniors. The Dunn brothers, Jake and Flynn throwing down early letting everyone know they are serious contenders. Jake Dunn scoring 7's & 8's from the judges, finding a nice set wave and landing two clean rolls with a spin combo. His younger brother Flynn followed in the next heat and boosting into a very clean roll, which the judges were calling roll of the day. The Masters took to the water a bit earlier than usual as some of the more experienced riders wanted to make the most of the good conditions. Will Kennedy definitely enjoyed himself, surfing like a man possessed, finding barrels and wedging sections to catapult himself off. Ben Fletcher sat himself further out than most, picking off the largest waves he could find. The Open riders took to the water next with Central Coast's Josh Selmes (last year's champion) taking advantage of the long lefts and spinning himself through his heat; a record 7 spins on the one wave followed by a clean roll! Kallan Bragg left Newcastle, post ANZAC celebrations early but got stuck in traffic jam. He turned up just as his heat was entering the water and surfed straight through to the next round. Jumanne Fredricks showing his talent to the judges with wave of the day in the Juniors Semi. Jumanne found a small section which he boosted off into a very clean and high, full rotation ARS. With a few Senior club members away this round, it was up to more of our Juniors to step up and take on a few extra responsibilities. Josh Aurisch, Jaxon Oakley, Rory Hill, Dan Vercoe and Jake Vercoe worked hard all day at whatever needed doing, even taking on the all-important BBQ duties to keep everyone fed. Well done boys! The DK final was one of the heats of the year! The boys making the most of some very fast sections impressing the crowd with some massive forehand and backhand hacks and big off the lip punts. Josh Smith and Kallan Bragg showed just how flawless and fast they can spin, forward or reverse, on the knee, while Tom Donnelly throwing buckets on his backhand and his excellent wave selection finding him some clean barrels. Flynn Dunn was too strong for the other finalists in the Juniors division. This young man is in fine form and should do very well in round 2 of the state titles in Kiama. The offshore was howling by the time the Opens riders hit the water for their final, and it was a nail biter. Kallan Bragg showing his prone game is as strong as his DK, taking out 1st. There was only 0.1 between second and third, a very excited Ben Fletcher, in his first Opens final, nudging out Josh Selmes. FTBA wishes all our riders who are heading to state round 2 in Kiama the best of luck! We have some amazing sponsors, so please remember,...

2015 Round 2 Proudly Presented By Forster Surf & Sport and The Bellevue Hotel

Forster Tuncurry Bodyboard Association Round 2 (29th March) went down at North Boomerang Beach with a perfect, warm Autumn day of 2-3ft South swell and light NW-NE winds. Wedges in the corner and some playful banks in front provided some entertaining left and rights. The only hiccup was the intense backwash. Sun's out, buns, guns and bellies were out, families on the beach, the BBQ fired up with the best sausages, bacon n eggs, rissoles and the freshest cakes. Our Junior Men hit the water first, with Flynn Dunn making the most of a few heavy 3ft sections. All the Juniors struggled early with sticking the rolls and flips. Open Men's saw the tide dropping with a small change in swell. New member Alex Martin and Thomas Donnelly knocked a few more well known prone riders out. Adam Cheers on consecutive waves in his semi, locking in Inverts, ARS’s, Float Revs and Rolls, showing everyone he is a real contender for 2015 Championship. In the Groms, Toby Elliott has improved out of sight, Karsyn and Jedd getting some ripper waves early. The Selmes twins, Mitch and Romeo Rory Hill on fire, battled it out at the top. Drop Knee saw Josh Aurisch having a good dig at it, and Alex Martin showing age has no barriers. Both were on fire, just needed to find the back up waves. Josh Smith, Adam Cheers, Jake Lightenberg and Thomas Donnelly were all just unstoppable. Masters Division with Anthony Murphy and Tory Mitchell starting on top with some sweet pits and pocket spin to pits. William Kennedy classy spins to pits. Daniel Smith returning from a few weeks in Indo bought back the fight and clocked up some barrel time and perfect rolls. Doddzy struggling to find suitable waves without backwash issues, showing Masters how to get the perfect rinse cycle. All members need to take note of the following lessons to be learnt from our second comp of the year: Competitors make sure you get two good waves in the bank, build on those if you can to improve your position All riders must be proactive with watching the running sheet and draw - if you miss your heat that's your problem Free surfing is NOT TO HAPPEN in the comp zone. Points will now be deducted if you are caught in the comp zone free surfing. All competitors are to do minimum of 2 heats judging (the more you learn in the judging chair, the better your comp surf knowledge will be).   ‎Waves Of The Day Adam Cheers and Josh Smith demonstrated technical riding with flips, inverts and float revs. Rory Hill Groms Final, perfect pocket spin to barrel - 7 Junior Final, all out war, wave for wave. Spins/rolls/barrels - all very clean. Look at more combo manoeuvres. Josh Smith, Opens Rnd 1 heat 4, boosted FLIP with perfect landing - 8.7 Adam Cheers, Opens Semi 2, consecutive waves. 1st wave big tweaked extended Invert - 8, 2nd wave perfectly timed ARS - 8.5, 3rd wave forward pocket spin lined up end bowl and massive float reverse - 8.5 Jake Ligtenberg, Open Semi 1, combo wave forward, cuttie, to stylish invert - 8.5 Thomas Donnelly, DK Final massive floater - 7.5 Josh Smith, DK Rnd 1 heat 2, hack to...

FTBA 2015 RD1 proudly bought to us by Forster Surf & Sport, The Bellevue Hotel. Forster Tuncurry Bodyboarders held their first round of the year on the 22nd February and would like to extend a big welcome to all our new members and families. Wild seas and ugly weather were the forecast ‎thanks to Cyclone Marcia. Competition kicked off at Forster Main Beach Wall break wall with 3ft+ heavy wedges. Juniors and Open Mens hit the water first, finding some clean lines early ‎until the SE winds, incoming tide, building swell and thick Red weed dominated the talk on land. After some consistent rouge heavy closeouts, the competition was packed up and relocated to Tuncurry Beach. The incoming tide had done wonders for the break with some bigger cleaner A Frames and consistent Off The Wall barrels and 2-3 linking manoeuvres. Some big names in Juniors and Opens were bumped early which opened the way for some new faces progressing through semi's and into Finals. The conditions were quite testing throughout the day, with some hard paddles and struggles to find the right waves amongst the washing machine like conditions. Congratulations to all competitors on the day. All members need to take note of the following lessons to be learnt from our first comp of the year. - Competitors make sure you get two good waves in the bank, build on those if you can to improve your position - All riders must be proactive watching the running sheet and draw, if you miss your heat that's your problem (take note Romeo Rory Hill) - Free surfing is NOT to happen in Comp Zone - All competitors are to do minimum of 2 heats judging (the more you learn in the judging chair, the better your comp surf knowledge will be) - Know where your car keys are (take note Ben Fletcher and Daniel Smith) - All Prizes (vouchers) must be used before next comp!   ‎ Waves of the day - Adam Cheers scored 10's in Dk and Prone. - Open Mens Semi with set wave forward spin, little cover up, raced the lined to smash out a huge ARS. - DK Final with small hack, setting the line for a MASSIVE DK floater‎ with a perfect landing. Forster Tuncurry Bodyboard Association 2014 Round 9 proudly supported by Forster Surf & Sport and Sporties Tuncurry.  Forecasts looked promising mid week, did they deliver? Did our members and a handful of PSDB tear the waves apart?  The forecasts were for 4ft+ clean south  ‎swell, a bit of North swell and off shore winds. We got 1ft clean weak sth swell followed by 2ft howling onshore rip bowls for the finals. ‎All competitors did more than tear the bag out of the waves that were provided, they showed amazing sportsmanship, super stylish riding, in all conditions. ‎68 competitors pushing out 24 x  15min Heats & 4 x 20min finals, getting blown away in style in the south west/nth west/south east/east winds before 14:30.
