Pristine Conditions For Boogie Youth

Boogie Youth - Development and Coaching Clinic This clinic was designed to inspire and motivate the at risk and indigenous youth of the Manning Great Lakes, to utilise the amazing place we live and take advantage of the ocean as a self or community developing experience and a way to implement anti social behaviour. Clinic was held at North Boomerang Beach on the 3rd May 2014. 44 youth (majority at risk and indigenous youth) celebrated the opportunity to learn from some of Australia's best big wave guru's, Da Boogie Man and Founder of The Bright Youth Foundation in pristine coaching conditions. All were well fed and hydrated thanks to the amazing support from Great Lakes Rotary Group. What a BBQ and the smiles on all GL Rotary Members was amazing, they went far and beyond to help the youth stay warm, and energised.   Supported by FTBA www.forsterbodyboardingclub.com.au Bright Youth Foundation www.brightyouthfoundation.org/pages/trial-vimeo Homebase Youth Services www.homebaseyouthservice.org.au/ Great Lakes Council www.greatlakes.nsw.gov.au/Home Marine Rescue Forster Tuncurry www.marine-rescue.com.au Rotary Club Forster Tuncurry Yoga Avenue www.facebook.com/yogaavenueaustralia QCD Bodyboards www.qcdboards.com Interview on NBN News with DA Boogie MAN, Matthew McArthur - the founder of The Bright Youth Foundation, and event organiser FTBA President Aaron Dodds. http://www.nbnnews.com.au/index.php/2014/05/03/bodyboard-clinic-aims-to-inspire-change/ Participants were broken into groups of 8, and went through a gruelling day of surf coaching in magical conditions with Da Boogie Man, Jesse Blair, Brendan Newton, Matty McArthur, Ben Fletcher and Dyllan Kennedy. Coaches joined the youth in the morning session in the water, watching and learning what the kids had and how they could improve the technical side of bodyboarding. As the day went on and the tide filled in the swell and waves got closer and closer to shore, allowing coaches to coach from shore. Sending riders to catch a wave, come in and critic the riding and style. This close one on one coaching allowed all riders to progress in skill levels and put into practice with the group challenge at the end of the day. Throughout the day the groups rotated from surf clinic to first aid and basic CPR instructor course with Gary and support from Marine Rescue Forster and Chris from pacific Palms Surf Club. Kids had access to CPR dummies, Defibrillators and other basic first aid app artists. Having hands on experience and school first aid experience excited the instructors and allowed them to refine and define their skills. Anti Bully and social media awareness plus more with Constable David Russell The youth really enjoyed the time with the Constable, learning what rules and systems are in place for minors and how to stop anti social behavior. The question time with the youth was entertaining at the least, even hearing "can we play with your gun". De-stressing, stretching and Yoga Class with Karen Farrel from Yoga Avenue The youth really had a ball, learning the core is the goal and controlled breathing will help them in day to day life. Seeing the kids work up a sweet stretching and having fun on the sand was good. They particularly loved the downward dog! Towards the end of the day, coaches worked on group challenges, focusing on maneuvers, clean lines with stylish scoops and teaching the kids to ride the barrels. The youth got a chance to put the skills they learnt...

FTBA Fundraiser – days before the fatman in the red suit hit town.

FTBA hosted a fundraising BBQ at Bunning's Warehouse Forster and held a raffle on the 22nd December, where members of the club committed time to help their club grow and develop, via cooking a snag and selling raffle tickets. It was only a few days before the fat man in the red suit hit town, so Stockland Forster was nuts with people doing the last minute Christmas shopping, locals and tourists took advantage of our strapping members and purchased many raffle tickets and snags. FTBA has some big events and development sessions planned for 2014, we need the cash to finance these opportunities to strengthen our bodyboarding community. A 4 burner VB BBQ, framed image of Blueys Beach captured by Eve Albury and club shirts were provided as prizes for the raffle. The grommies got busy in Bunnings hassling shoppers to buy tickets, Will, Bruce, Jim, Simon, Cheers and Eve were trading places cooking while senior members Kallan, Josh, Brody sold over $400 in raffle tickets in Stockland. Our members did not waste this opportunity and made their club some money!! Total money raised was $1700.00. Many thanks to No Bull Gourmet Meats, Colleens Bakery, Saxby's, VB (Surfing Australia), Eve Albury and all club members that assisted with this great result. All members had fun supporting their club! 1st Prize VB 4 Burner BBQ won by Sarah and Scott Catlett with children Bayli, Kobi and Lochi, recently moved to Forster from Western Sydney, winning the BBQ a few days before Christmas was a blessing. 2nd Prize framed photo of Blueys Beach provided by Eve Albury won by Maxine and Phil Wright of Darawank. Phil used to hang glide over Blueys Beach, winning the photo brought back many wonderful memories. 3rd Prize club shirts won by Jenny Collins. Jenny remembers Jeff Wilcox and attended 2013 return. She was proud to have won the shirts and will continue to support the club. FTBA AGM will be held on the 20th January (all welcome). FTBA 2014 Registration 25th January. Cost $70.
